ThumbScore

The Google audience-score archive

11,290 films, captured 2026-06-28, before Google deleted the feature.

For years Google showed a figure on its own film panels: the percentage of Google users who said they liked a film. It was built from a volume of votes no other site could match, and in 2026 Google removed it. There was never a public API for it, no dump was ever published, and because the panels rendered in the browser, web archives caught it only by accident.

These 11,290 rows were captured while the feature was still live. We have not found another copy at this scale. Films from 1915 to 2026; scores from 7 to 100, averaging 72.5.

How the crowd scored 11,290 films

0-9 0.0% 1 films
10-19 0.0% 3 films
20-29 0.1% 6 films
30-39 0.6% 71 films
40-49 3.8% 433 films
50-59 11.2% 1,270 films
60-69 21.4% 2,418 films
70-79 29.1% 3,282 films
80-89 28.3% 3,197 films
90-100 5.4% 609 films

Note where the mass sits. Four films in five scored between 60 and 89, and almost nothing scored below 40. A scale that compressed is why the number was never much use for telling two good films apart, and why a personal score carries more information than the figure itself.

What the archive shows

The crowd scored older films higher

1930s 84.2 27 films
1940s 83.8 53 films
1950s 82.9 105 films
1960s 82.5 161 films
1970s 80.8 234 films
1980s 81.5 496 films
1990s 79.3 903 films
2000s 76.1 1,763 films
2010s 71.3 2,766 films
2020s 67.6 1,188 films

From 84.2 in the 1930s down to 67.6 in the 2020s, falling in almost every step. This is not evidence that films got worse. It is survivorship: a film from the 1940s only appears here if it is still watched and still rated today, so the decade has been filtered down to its survivors, while the 2020s are present in full. Any dataset of old films is a dataset of the ones that lasted.

Genre barely moved the number

War came top at 78.9 and Thriller came last at 72.8. 16 genres inside 6.1 points, which is another way of saying this score measured something close to general approval rather than anything specific about a film.

Google gave a percentage but never the number of votes behind it, so a film three people rated reads as a flat 100. By default this list shows the 7,711 films with a real audience behind them.

7,711 matches, showing 4,701 to 4,800.
