Brother Bear is a 2003 American animated film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation. Set in post-Ice Age North America, the film follows Kenai, a young Inuit man who kills a bear in misguided revenge for his brother's death, only to be transformed into a bear himself by the spirits as punishment. In his new form, Kenai must journey to the Northern Lights to ask the spirits to reverse the transformation, accompanied by Koda, an orphaned bear cub who doesn't know that Kenai killed his mother β a revelation that gives the story its emotional core.
Phil Collins provided the film's songs, continuing his collaboration with Disney after Tarzan. The Canadian wilderness was rendered in rich, warm colors that expanded when Kenai became a bear, reflecting his broadened perspective on the natural world. Brother Bear earned $250 million worldwide on a $46 million budget and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature.
