Gone in Sixty Seconds is a 2000 American action crime film directed by Dominic Sena, a remake of the 1974 film. Nicolas Cage stars as Memphis Raines, a legendary retired car thief who must steal 50 specific luxury cars in one night to save his younger brother, played by Giovanni Ribisi, from a crime boss played by Christopher Eccleston. Memphis assembles his old crew, including Robert Duvall as his mentor Otto Halliwell and Angelina Jolie as the mechanic Sara "Sway" Wayland, for the elaborate operation.
The film's centerpiece was the pursuit of Eleanor, a 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang that Memphis considers his "unicorn" โ the one car he was never able to successfully steal. The climactic chase sequence with Eleanor through downtown Long Beach was the film's most exciting stretch. Gone in Sixty Seconds earned $237 million worldwide on a $90 million budget.
The film further demonstrated the franchise's enduring global commercial appeal and its ability to attract audiences across diverse international markets.
