- Many of the practical effects used in the climax were achieved without any CGI.
- The original script for Jack the Giant Slayer was written over a decade before production finally began in 2013.
- Before Nicholas Hoult was cast, several major A-list stars turned down the lead role because they felt the script was too risky.
Jack the Giant Slayer is a 2013 American fantasy adventure directed by Bryan Singer, based on the fairy tales Jack and the Beanstalk and Jack the Giant Killer. Nicholas Hoult stars as Jack, a young farmhand who accidentally opens a gateway between the human realm and a land of giants in the sky when magic beans create an enormous beanstalk that lifts his house into the clouds. When Princess Isabelle, played by Eleanor Tomlinson, is taken into the giant realm, Jack joins a rescue expedition led by the king's guard.
The film featured impressive visual effects rendering enormous, grotesque giants with distinct personalities, and the beanstalk itself was a spectacular creation. Ewan McGregor appeared as the expedition's captain. Jack the Giant Slayer earned $197 million worldwide on a $195 million budget, a significant commercial loss.
The film demonstrated the enduring commercial viability of its franchise and genre to global audiences, solidifying its position in the modern blockbuster landscape.
