Journey to the Center of the Earth is a 2008 American science fiction adventure directed by Eric Brevig, loosely based on Jules Verne's 1864 novel. Brendan Fraser stars as Trevor Anderson, a volcanologist whose missing brother's research notes lead him, his nephew Sean played by Josh Hutcherson, and their Icelandic guide Hannah played by Anita Briem, into a volcanic tube that descends into the actual center of the Earth β where they discover a vast underground world containing bioluminescent birds, carnivorous plants, a subterranean ocean, and living dinosaurs. Journey to the Center of the Earth was one of the first major films designed specifically for digital 3D presentation, and the immersive effect of the underground world was impressive in theatrical 3D viewing.
Brendan Fraser brought his characteristic wide-eyed adventure energy. The film earned $242 million worldwide on a $60 million budget.
