Puss in Boots is a 2011 American animated adventure comedy produced by DreamWorks Animation, a spin-off and prequel to the Shrek franchise. Antonio Banderas reprises his voice role as the swashbuckling, scene-stealing feline outlaw, now starring in his own origin story. The film follows Puss's quest to steal the magic beans that grow a beanstalk to a castle containing the legendary Golden Goose, teaming up with his former partner-in-crime Humpty Alexander Dumpty, voiced by Zach Galifianakis, and the alluring Kitty Softpaws, voiced by Salma Hayek, a skilled thief whose lack of front claws makes her the only cat who can match Puss's abilities.
The animation brought a Spaghetti Western aesthetic to the franchise's fairy-tale world, with wide desert landscapes, saloon standoffs, and Sergio Leone-inspired camera angles. Antonio Banderas's vocal performance carried genuine charisma and comic timing. Puss in Boots earned $554 million worldwide on a $130 million budget.
