Quantum of Solace is a 2008 British spy film directed by Marc Forster, the 22nd James Bond film and the first direct sequel in the franchise's history. Daniel Craig returns as Bond, picking up hours after Casino Royale ended, pursuing vengeance for the death of Vesper Lynd while uncovering a shadowy organization called Quantum that has infiltrated governments worldwide. Bond's investigation leads him to Dominic Greene, played by Mathieu Amalric, an environmentalist businessman secretly cornering Bolivia's water supply for profit, and to Camille Montes, played by Olga Kurylenko, a Bolivian intelligence agent seeking her own revenge.
Quantum of Solace was produced during the 2007-2008 Writers Guild strike, which significantly hampered script development and forced Daniel Craig to contribute to rewriting scenes during production. The resulting film was notably shorter and more action-heavy than Casino Royale, with a frenetic editing style that some critics felt obscured rather than enhanced the action sequences. Despite the production challenges, the film earned $589 million worldwide.
