Robin Hood (2010)
- Eagle-eyed viewers have noticed a hidden easter egg referencing Ridley Scott's previous film in the background of the opening scene.
- Ridley Scott originally wanted a completely different ending for the film, but test audiences preferred the one we see today.
- The original script for Robin Hood was written over a decade before production finally began in 2010.
Robin Hood is a 2010 American epic historical action film directed by Ridley Scott, reuniting him with Russell Crowe after Gladiator. Crowe stars as Robin Longstride, an English archer returning from the Crusades who assumes the identity of a dead nobleman and finds himself defending the town of Nottingham against both the scheming machinations of King John played by Oscar Isaac and a French-backed invasion. Cate Blanchett plays Marian as a tough, practical landowner rather than a damsel in distress.
Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe conceived the film as a gritty, historically grounded origin story โ more Saving Private Ryan than Errol Flynn โ depicting how Robin became an outlaw rather than his adventures as one. The film's massive battle sequences, particularly the D-Day-inspired beach assault, were impressively staged. Robin Hood earned $321 million worldwide on a $200 million budget.
The film showcased its director's ability to deliver large-scale action spectacle while maintaining the character dynamics that made the property appealing to audiences in the first place.
