Where to Watch
- The incredible score for Shark Tale was composed in just a few weeks after the original composer dropped out.
- Eagle-eyed viewers have noticed a hidden easter egg referencing Vicky Jenson, Bibo Bergeron's previous film in the background of the opening scene.
- Many of the practical effects used in the climax were achieved without any CGI.
Shark Tale is a 2004 American animated comedy produced by DreamWorks Animation. Will Smith voices Oscar, a small fish working at a whale wash in an underwater city who becomes famous by falsely claiming to have killed the son of the shark mob boss Don Lino, voiced by Robert De Niro. Oscar's deception makes him a hero called the "Sharkslayer" while the dead shark's vegetarian brother Lenny, voiced by Jack Black, hides among the reef fish disguised as a dolphin.
The film featured an all-star voice cast including Renée Zellweger, Angelina Jolie, and Martin Scorsese, and its urban underwater setting satirized mob movies and hip-hop culture. Shark Tale earned $374 million worldwide on a $75 million budget. While the film received mixed reviews and was overshadowed by Pixar's Finding Nemo and The Incredibles released in the same period, its energetic voice performances and colorful underwater world found a sizable audience.
