300: Rise of an Empire is a 2014 American epic action film directed by Noam Murro, a simultaneous prequel and sequel to Zack Snyder's 300. Sullivan Stapleton stars as Themistocles, an Athenian general who leads Greece's naval forces against the massive Persian fleet commanded by Artemisia, a ruthless Greek-born commander played by Eva Green who serves the Persian King Xerxes out of revenge against her own homeland. Eva Green's ferocious performance as Artemisia was the film's most compelling element โ she dominated every scene with a combination of physicality, intelligence, and barely contained fury that elevated the material.
The naval battle sequences, employing the same green-screen, digitally-enhanced visual style as the original, created spectacular images of flaming ships, crashing waves, and sword combat on water-slicked decks. 300: Rise of an Empire earned $337 million worldwide on a $110 million budget.
