Allied is a 2016 American war romance directed by Robert Zemeckis. Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard star as Max Vatan and Marianne Beausรฉjour, intelligence operatives from different nations who pose as a married couple on a dangerous mission to assassinate a German ambassador in Casablanca during World War II. Their pretend romance becomes genuine, and they marry and settle in London โ until Max receives a devastating communication from V Section: intelligence believes Marianne is a German spy, and Max must determine the truth before she is executed.
The Casablanca sequences, deliberately evoking the 1943 classic, were visually sumptuous, and the London bombing sequences were harrowing. Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard's chemistry was central to the film's effectiveness โ the audience had to believe their love was real to feel the horror of the accusation. Allied earned $119 million worldwide on a $85 million budget.
