A Good Day to Die Hard is a 2013 American action film directed by John Moore, the fifth installment in the Die Hard franchise. Bruce Willis returns as John McClane, who travels to Moscow to help his estranged son Jack, played by Jai Courtney, who is revealed to be an undercover CIA operative whose mission has been compromised. Father and son must work together to stop a Russian political figure and a corrupt CIA operative from obtaining weapons-grade uranium from the Chernobyl nuclear plant.
The film was widely considered the weakest entry in the franchise, with critics noting that the indestructible, quip-cracking McClane bore little resemblance to the vulnerable, everyman hero of the original. A Good Day to Die Hard earned $304 million worldwide on a $92 million budget. The film's R rating was the first for the franchise since the original, though critics noted the increased violence wasn't accompanied by the character depth that had made Die Hard a classic.
