Olympus Has Fallen is a 2013 American action thriller directed by Antoine Fuqua. Gerard Butler stars as Mike Banning, a disgraced Secret Service agent who becomes the only person inside the White House when North Korean terrorists, led by Kang Yeonsak played by Rick Yune, launch a devastating assault on the presidential residence. With the President, played by Aaron Eckhart, held hostage in the underground bunker and the building overrun, Banning must single-handedly eliminate the terrorists while coordinating with the Speaker of the House, played by Morgan Freeman, who has assumed command.
Antoine Fuqua staged the White House siege with intense, bloody violence that earned the film an R rating, and the spectacle of watching America's most iconic government building reduced to a smoking ruin gave the film genuine shock value. Olympus Has Fallen earned $170 million worldwide on a $70 million budget and launched a franchise.
