- The incredible score for Batman & Robin was composed in just a few weeks after the original composer dropped out.
Batman & Robin is a 1997 American superhero film directed by Joel Schumacher, the fourth Batman film and the entry that effectively killed the franchise for eight years until Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins. George Clooney takes over as Batman, joined by Chris O'Donnell's Robin and Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl, as they battle Mr. Freeze, played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, an ice-obsessed villain desperately seeking a cure for his cryogenically frozen wife, and Poison Ivy, played by Uma Thurman, an eco-terrorist who can control plant life and bewitch men with a kiss.
Batman & Robin is widely considered one of the worst films ever made, a critical and commercial disaster that pushed the franchise's campiness past the breaking point. Arnold Schwarzenegger's barrage of ice-related puns, the notorious Bat-credit-card, rubber nipples on the Bat-suits, and a tone that oscillated between children's cartoon and toy commercial created a film that satisfied nobody. Batman & Robin earned $238 million worldwide on a $125 million budget, a significant decline from Batman Forever, and George Clooney has spent decades apologizing for the film.
