Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is a 2022 American superhero film directed by Ryan Coogler, the sequel to his 2018 blockbuster that had to be fundamentally reconceived following the death of star Chadwick Boseman from colon cancer in August 2020. The film follows Queen Ramonda, played by Angela Bassett, Shuri played by Letitia Wright, and the people of Wakanda as they mourn King T'Challa's death while facing a new threat: Namor, the ruler of Talokan, a hidden underwater civilization of Mayan descendants who have been empowered by vibranium, played by Tenoch Huerta. Ryan Coogler transformed a franchise sequel into a genuine meditation on grief, legacy, and the burden of carrying on after devastating loss.
Angela Bassett's Queen Ramonda, whose regal authority and maternal devastation provided the film's emotional foundation, delivered a performance many considered the finest in any MCU film. Tenoch Huerta's Namor was a compelling antagonist whose motivations — protecting his hidden civilization from the same colonial exploitation that Wakanda had avoided — created genuine moral complexity. The film earned $859 million worldwide.
