Furious 7 is a 2015 American action film directed by James Wan, the seventh installment in the Fast and Furious franchise. The film follows Dominic Toretto and his crew as they are hunted by Deckard Shaw, played by Jason Statham, a rogue special forces assassin seeking revenge for his brother's hospitalization. To stop Shaw, the team is recruited by a covert government operative, played by Kurt Russell, to rescue a hacker who has created a powerful surveillance program called God's Eye.
Furious 7's production was profoundly affected by the death of Paul Walker in a car accident on November 30, 2013, during a break in filming. Walker's brothers Caleb and Cody served as stand-ins, with WETA Digital creating digital face replacements for the remaining scenes โ a groundbreaking achievement in respectful digital actor recreation. The film's ending, in which Walker's character Brian O'Conner drives off into the sunset as Vin Diesel's Dom watches and Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth's "See You Again" plays, was a devastatingly emotional farewell that transcended the franchise to become a genuine cultural moment of collective grief.
Furious 7 earned $1.51 billion worldwide, the sixth highest-grossing film of all time at its release, with audiences responding to both the spectacular action and the emotional tribute to Walker.
