Fast & Furious 6 is a 2013 American action film directed by Justin Lin, the sixth installment in the franchise. Dominic Toretto and his crew are recruited by Diplomatic Security Service agent Luke Hobbs, played by Dwayne Johnson, to help bring down Owen Shaw, a former British special forces soldier turned international criminal who commands a team of skilled drivers and fighters โ including Letty Ortiz, Dom's presumed-dead girlfriend played by Michelle Rodriguez, who is suffering from amnesia and working for Shaw. The crew must stop Shaw from assembling a device capable of disabling an entire country's military capabilities.
Fast & Furious 6 represented the franchise's full evolution from street-racing crime films into globe-trotting heist-action spectacles. The film's centerpiece action sequence โ a chase involving a massive military cargo plane on the longest runway in cinematic history, estimated by fans to require approximately 26 miles โ became a beloved example of the franchise's gleeful disregard for physics. Justin Lin's direction of the tank chase on a Spanish highway was equally spectacular.
The revelation that Letty was alive gave the franchise an emotional anchor, and the post-credits scene introducing Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw as the villain of Furious 7 generated enormous anticipation. Fast & Furious 6 earned $789 million worldwide on a $160 million budget.
