Ghost Rider is a 2007 American superhero film directed by Mark Steven Johnson. Nicolas Cage stars as Johnny Blaze, a motorcycle stunt performer who, as a teenager, sold his soul to the devil Mephistopheles, played by Peter Fonda, to cure his father's cancer. Years later, the devil calls in his debt, transforming Johnny into the Ghost Rider β a fiery skeleton riding a flaming motorcycle who serves as the devil's bounty hunter, claiming the souls of the wicked.
When Mephistopheles's son Blackheart, played by Wes Bentley, attempts to acquire a contract containing a thousand corrupt souls to overthrow his father, Johnny must use his new powers to stop him. Nicolas Cage, a genuine Ghost Rider comic book fan who has a Ghost Rider tattoo and named his son Kal-El after Superman, brought his characteristic intense commitment to the role. The visual effects transforming Cage into the flaming-skulled Ghost Rider were the film's most impressive element.
Ghost Rider earned $228 million worldwide on a $110 million budget.
