Hitch (2005)
- Many of the practical effects used in the climax were achieved without any CGI.
- The incredible score for Hitch was composed in just a few weeks after the original composer dropped out.
- Andy Tennant originally wanted a completely different ending for the film, but test audiences preferred the one we see today.
Hitch is a 2005 American romantic comedy directed by Andy Tennant. Will Smith stars as Alex "Hitch" Hitchens, a professional "date doctor" who coaches socially awkward men through the early stages of courtship, helping them win the women of their dreams through confidence-building and strategic romantic gestures. When Hitch takes on Albert Brennaman, a bumbling accountant played by Kevin James who is desperately in love with a celebrity heiress, Hitch's own romantic life is complicated by his growing feelings for Sara Melas, a skeptical gossip columnist played by Eva Mendes who is investigating the existence of a mythical date doctor.
Will Smith's charm was perfectly calibrated for the role of a man who understands romance intellectually but struggles to apply his own advice when his heart is involved. Kevin James's physical comedy as the well-meaning but catastrophically awkward Albert was the film's most consistently entertaining element. Hitch earned $368 million worldwide on a $70 million budget.
