Ice Age: The Meltdown is a 2006 American animated comedy produced by Blue Sky Studios, the sequel to the 2002 hit. The film follows Manny, Sid, and Diego as they discover that the ice around their valley is melting, creating a massive lake held back by a natural dam that will eventually burst and flood everything. The herd must lead the valley's inhabitants to safety at the far end of the valley, where a boat-like structure can save them.
Along the way, Manny meets Ellie, a mammoth who was raised by possums and believes she is one, voiced by Queen Latifah, along with her two possum brothers Crash and Eddie. The Meltdown expanded the franchise's scope while maintaining the formula of odd-couple humor and slapstick adventure that had made the original successful. Scrat's ongoing pursuit of his acorn, which in this film inadvertently triggers the catastrophic melting, continued to provide the series' most reliably entertaining moments.
The film earned $660 million worldwide on a $80 million budget, a significant improvement over the original's gross and confirmation of the franchise's global appeal.
