About the Film

Insidious: Chapter 2 is a 2013 American supernatural horror film directed by James Wan. Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne return as Josh and Renai Lambert, picking up immediately after the first film's shocking ending. While the Lambert family has moved to Josh's mother's house to escape the haunting, Renai realizes that something is deeply wrong with Josh following his journey into The Further — his behavior is erratic, aggressive, and increasingly violent.

The film split its narrative between the present-day investigation and Josh's childhood, gradually revealing the connection between the entity possessing Josh and a serial killer from decades past. James Wan's direction maintained the claustrophobic dread of the original while expanding the mythology of The Further into a more elaborate supernatural landscape. Lin Shaye's Elise Rainier returned through flashback sequences that provided crucial backstory.

Insidious: Chapter 2 earned $161 million worldwide on a $5 million budget, one of the most profitable horror sequels ever made.
