Juno is a 2007 American coming-of-age comedy-drama directed by Jason Reitman and written by Diablo Cody. Ellen Page (now Elliot Page) stars as Juno MacGuff, a sharp-tongued, pop-culture-obsessed 16-year-old who discovers she's pregnant after a single encounter with her friend Paulie Bleeker, played by Michael Cera. After briefly considering abortion, Juno decides to give the baby up for adoption and selects Mark and Vanessa Loring, played by Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner, as the prospective parents โ a choice that becomes complicated when Mark proves less committed to fatherhood than his wife.
Diablo Cody's Oscar-winning screenplay was celebrated and debated in equal measure โ her distinctive voice, packed with pop culture references, invented slang, and deliberately quirky dialogue, was either delightfully original or insufferably affected depending on the listener. The film's treatment of teen pregnancy was notably non-judgmental, depicting Juno's parents (J.K. Simmons and Allison Janney) as supportive and her community as accepting.
Juno earned $231 million worldwide on a $7.5 million budget.
