Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted is a 2012 American animated comedy produced by DreamWorks Animation. Alex, Marty, Melman, Gloria, and the Penguins attempt to fly home to New York from Africa but crash-land in Monte Carlo, where they are pursued by the relentless Captain DuBois, an animal control officer voiced by Frances McDormand whose obsessive determination to capture Alex makes her the franchise's most formidable villain. The group escapes by joining a struggling European circus, where they must learn circus acts to blend in while helping the troupe rediscover its passion.
The circus performance sequences, set to Katy Perry's "Firework" and featuring dazzling, neon-colored acts designed by the animals, were the franchise's most visually spectacular set pieces. Frances McDormand's DuBois, singing Edith Piaf while pursuing the animals through the streets of Monte Carlo, was a comedic highlight. Madagascar 3 earned $747 million worldwide on a $145 million budget, the franchise's highest gross.
