Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters is a 2013 American fantasy adventure directed by Thor Freudenthal, the sequel to The Lightning Thief. Logan Lerman returns as Percy Jackson, who must find the legendary Golden Fleece to save Camp Half-Blood's protective barrier, which is failing and leaving the demigod training camp vulnerable to monster attacks. Percy's quest takes him and his friends through the Sea of Monsters โ the mythological Bermuda Triangle โ where they encounter Polyphemus the Cyclops, navigate between Scylla and Charybdis, and race against Luke Castellan, played by Jake Abel, who seeks the Fleece to resurrect the Titan lord Kronos.
The sequel addressed some criticisms of the first film by aging down closer to the books' timeline and incorporating more faithful mythological elements. Stanley Tucci appeared as Dionysus and Nathan Fillion as Hermes. Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters earned $199 million worldwide on a $90 million budget, insufficient to continue the franchise in its live-action film form.
