Red Dragon is a 2002 American psychological thriller directed by Brett Ratner, a prequel to The Silence of the Lambs based on Thomas Harris's 1981 novel. Edward Norton stars as FBI agent Will Graham, who captured Dr. Hannibal Lecter, played again by Anthony Hopkins, years earlier and retired traumatized from the experience.
Graham is pulled back into service to hunt the Tooth Fairy, a serial killer played by Ralph Fiennes who murders entire families during full moons, and must consult the imprisoned Lecter for insights into the killer's psychology โ revisiting the relationship that nearly destroyed him. Ralph Fiennes's Francis Dolarhyde was a genuinely sympathetic villain โ a deeply damaged man whose relationship with a blind coworker, played by Emily Watson, offered hope of redemption while his psychotic alter ego drove him toward further violence. Red Dragon earned $209 million worldwide on a $78 million budget.
