Riddick is a 2013 American science fiction action film directed by David Twohy, the third installment starring Vin Diesel as the antihero with surgically enhanced night vision. Betrayed and left for dead on a sun-scorched, alien-inhabited planet, Riddick must survive against predatory creatures while drawing bounty hunters to his location by activating an emergency beacon โ a calculated gamble to steal one of their ships. The first act, a near-wordless survival sequence depicting Riddick alone against the hostile environment with only a wild dog for companionship, was the franchise's most artistically ambitious stretch and a deliberate return to the intimate, stripped-down approach of Pitch Black after the expansive Chronicles of Riddick.
Vin Diesel co-produced and helped finance the film through the sale of his Fast and Furious residual rights, demonstrating his personal commitment to the franchise. Riddick earned $98 million worldwide on a $38 million budget.
