Rocky II is a 1979 American sports drama written and directed by Sylvester Stallone, the sequel to his 1976 Oscar-winning original. The film follows Rocky Balboa's life after his moral victory against Apollo Creed, as he discovers that fame from the fight doesn't translate into sustainable income โ his boxing earnings evaporate through purchases, his endorsement deals dry up because he can't read cue cards, and he struggles to find work that doesn't exploit his celebrity. When Apollo, haunted by the public perception that he barely defeated a nobody, demands a rematch, Rocky must train while his pregnant wife Adrian, played by Talia Shire, opposes the fight after learning it could cause permanent blindness.
The training sequences and the climactic rematch โ ending with both fighters falling simultaneously and Rocky rising at the count of nine โ were the franchise's most emotionally satisfying. Rocky II earned $200 million worldwide on a $7 million budget.
