Silent Hill is a 2006 French-Canadian horror film directed by Christophe Gans, based on the Konami video game series. Radha Mitchell stars as Rose Da Silva, a mother who takes her adopted daughter Sharon, played by Jodelle Ferland, to the abandoned town of Silent Hill, West Virginia to uncover the source of the girl's night terrors about the place. When Rose crashes her car near the town, she awakens in a fog-shrouded, ash-covered Silent Hill โ a nightmarish realm that periodically shifts into a rusted, blood-soaked alternate dimension populated by grotesque, tortured creatures.
Christophe Gans faithfully recreated the games' distinctive atmosphere of perpetual fog, industrial decay, and body horror, creating one of the most visually faithful video game adaptations ever produced. The creature designs, including the iconic Pyramid Head and the nurses with faceless, twitching bodies, were realized through a combination of practical effects and CGI. Silent Hill earned $100 million worldwide on a $50 million budget.
