Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a 2022 American live-action/animated adventure comedy directed by Jeff Fowler. Ben Schwartz returns as the voice of Sonic, who has been trying β and largely failing β to be a responsible hero in Green Hills, Montana. When Dr.
Robotnik, played by Jim Carrey, returns from the Mushroom Planet with a new ally β Knuckles the Echidna, a powerful warrior voiced by Idris Elba who has been tricked into believing Sonic stole the Master Emerald from his people β Sonic must team up with Tails, a two-tailed fox inventor voiced by Colleen O'Shaughnessey, to find the Emerald before Robotnik can use it to conquer the world. The sequel significantly expanded the video game mythology, introducing Knuckles and Tails as major characters and climaxing with a faithful recreation of the games' giant robot battles. Idris Elba's Knuckles, naive and humorless but fiercely honorable, was an immediately beloved addition.
Jim Carrey announced the film would likely be his final role. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 earned $405 million worldwide on a $90 million budget.
