Stardust is a 2007 British-American fantasy adventure directed by Matthew Vaughn, based on Neil Gaiman's 1999 novel. Charlie Cox stars as Tristan Thorn, a young man in a Victorian English village bordering the magical kingdom of Stormhold, who crosses through a gap in the wall to retrieve a fallen star as a gift for the woman he loves, only to discover the star has taken human form β Yvaine, played by Claire Danes, a radiant, sharp-tongued woman who is less than thrilled about being claimed as a present. Their journey home is complicated by a trio of aged witches, led by Michelle Pfeiffer's Lamia, who want to cut out Yvaine's heart to restore their youth, and the princes of Stormhold competing for the throne, including a scheming Septimus played by Mark Strong.
Robert De Niro appeared in a memorable role as Captain Shakespeare, a fearsome-seeming sky pirate who secretly enjoys cross-dressing and interior decorating. Stardust earned $135 million worldwide on a $70 million budget and has been warmly reappraised as one of the finest fantasy films of its era.
