The Accountant is a 2016 American action thriller directed by Gavin O'Connor. Ben Affleck stars as Christian Wolff, a mathematical savant with high-functioning autism who works as a forensic accountant for some of the world's most dangerous criminal organizations, uncooking their books while living a carefully controlled, routine-driven life. When Christian takes on a legitimate client — a robotics company where a young accountant played by Anna Kendrick has discovered discrepancies — he uncovers embezzlement that puts both their lives in danger.
Ben Affleck's portrayal of an autistic action hero was the film's most distinctive element — Christian's autism was presented not as a disability to be overcome but as a fundamental part of his identity that gave him both his extraordinary abilities and his genuine challenges. The action sequences, in which Christian dispatches threats with lethal efficiency, were grounded and brutal. The film earned $155 million worldwide on a $44 million budget.
