The Blind Side (2009)
Where to Watch
- The incredible score for The Blind Side was composed in just a few weeks after the original composer dropped out.
- Many of the practical effects used in the climax were achieved without any CGI.
- Eagle-eyed viewers have noticed a hidden easter egg referencing John Lee Hancock's previous film in the background of the opening scene.
The Blind Side is a 2009 American biographical sports drama directed by John Lee Hancock. Sandra Bullock stars as Leigh Anne Tuohy, a wealthy, strong-willed Memphis interior designer who takes in Michael Oher, played by Quinton Aaron, a homeless African-American teenager with a traumatic past who is attending a private Christian school on a scholarship. The Tuohy family provides Michael with a home, support, and encouragement that help him develop into an All-American offensive lineman who is eventually drafted into the NFL.
Sandra Bullock won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her forceful, charismatic performance as the no-nonsense Leigh Anne, whose fierce protectiveness and refusal to accept limitations made her an irresistible screen presence. The Blind Side earned $309 million worldwide on a $29 million budget, making it one of the highest-grossing sports films in history. The film later became the subject of controversy when Michael Oher alleged in a 2023 lawsuit that the Tuohy family had placed him under a conservatorship rather than legally adopting him.
