The Holiday is a 2006 American romantic comedy written and directed by Nancy Meyers. Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet star as Amanda Woods, a successful Los Angeles movie trailer producer, and Iris Simpkins, a London newspaper columnist, who are both devastated by romantic heartbreak during the Christmas season and impulsively agree to swap homes for two weeks through a home exchange website. In Surrey, Amanda meets Iris's charming brother Graham, played by Jude Law, while in Los Angeles, Iris befriends a retired golden-age Hollywood screenwriter, played by Eli Wallach, and begins a relationship with film composer Miles, played by Jack Black.
Nancy Meyers's direction showcased her trademark visual warmth โ Amanda's L.A. mansion and Iris's cozy English cottage were production-designed to be aspirationally beautiful. The film earned $205 million worldwide on a $85 million budget and has become a beloved annual Christmas viewing tradition.
