The Legend of Tarzan is a 2016 American action adventure directed by David Yates. Alexander Skarsgård stars as Tarzan/John Clayton III, who has been living in England as Lord Greystoke for years when he is lured back to the Congo by the Belgian envoy Léon Rom, played by Christoph Waltz, who plans to deliver Tarzan to an African chief in exchange for diamonds to fund Belgium's colonial exploitation. Accompanied by his wife Jane, played by Margot Robbie, and American envoy George Washington Williams, played by Samuel L.
Jackson, Tarzan must reconnect with his primal abilities to stop Rom's plan. The film attempted to address colonialism and slavery more directly than any previous Tarzan adaptation, with Samuel L. Jackson's character based on the real-life George Washington Williams who exposed Belgian atrocities in the Congo.
The Legend of Tarzan earned $356 million worldwide on a $180 million budget.
