The Other Guys is a 2010 American buddy cop action comedy directed by Adam McKay. Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg star as Allen Gamble and Terry Hoitz, two NYPD detectives stuck at their desks โ Allen is a mild-mannered forensic accountant who genuinely loves paperwork, while Terry is a hotheaded detective exiled to desk duty after accidentally shooting Derek Jeter during the World Series. When the city's flashiest cops are killed and a seemingly minor financial case turns out to be a massive Ponzi scheme, Allen and Terry stumble into their first real investigation.
Will Ferrell's Allen, a man with inexplicably attractive ex-girlfriends, a penchant for tuna versus lion analogies, and a secret past as a college pimp, was one of Ferrell's most inventively absurd characters. The film's end credits, which featured animated infographics about real corporate fraud, executive compensation, and the 2008 financial crisis, were a surprisingly pointed political statement for a studio comedy. The Other Guys earned $170 million worldwide on a $100 million budget.
