What Happened to Monday is a 2017 European science fiction thriller directed by Tommy Wirkola. Noomi Rapace plays seven roles as identical septuplet sisters living in a dystopian future where strict population control limits families to one child, with excess siblings being placed in cryosleep. The sisters, named after days of the week, have survived by each assuming the identity of one woman named Karen Settman on their designated day โ Monday goes out on Mondays, Tuesday on Tuesdays, and so on.
When Monday disappears after her day out, the remaining six sisters must uncover what happened to her while evading the Child Allocation Bureau, led by Nicolette Cayman played by Glenn Close. Noomi Rapace's commitment to differentiating seven distinct personalities โ each with unique hair, clothing, personality traits, and body language โ was an impressive technical and dramatic achievement. What Happened to Monday premiered on Netflix and became one of the platform's most-watched original films.
