When Harry Met Sally... is a 1989 American romantic comedy directed by Rob Reiner, written by Nora Ephron. Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan star as Harry Burns and Sally Albright, who meet as acquaintances sharing a drive from Chicago to New York after college graduation. Harry insists that men and women can never be just friends because sex always gets in the way; Sally disagrees.
Over the next twelve years, they encounter each other periodically and eventually become close friends โ testing Harry's theory and Nora Ephron's central question of whether friendship can survive romantic feeling. The deli scene, in which Sally fakes an orgasm at Katz's Delicatessen to prove a point and an older woman at the next table tells the waiter "I'll have what she's having" (the woman was Rob Reiner's mother, Estelle), became one of the most famous scenes in comedy history. Nora Ephron's screenplay was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
When Harry Met Sally earned $92 million worldwide on a $16 million budget.
