xXx is a 2002 American action film directed by Rob Cohen. Vin Diesel stars as Xander Cage, an extreme sports athlete and Internet stunt personality who is recruited by NSA agent Augustus Gibbons, played by Samuel L. Jackson, to infiltrate a Russian crime ring led by Yorgi, played by Marton Csokas, that is developing a chemical weapon.
The premise was explicitly designed to create a James Bond alternative for the extreme sports generation β Cage is recruited precisely because his anti-establishment, adrenaline-junkie personality allows him to operate in environments where traditional agents would stand out. Vin Diesel's Xander Cage was Bond's opposite in every way β tattooed, irreverent, dressed in fur coats rather than tuxedos, and more comfortable on a snowboard than in a casino. The extreme sports sequences, including an avalanche escape and a motorized paraglider assault, were the film's action highlights. xXx earned $277 million worldwide on a $85 million budget.
