Cowboys & Aliens is a 2011 American science fiction Western directed by Jon Favreau. Daniel Craig stars as Jake Lonergan, a mysterious amnesiac stranger who rides into the frontier town of Absolution in 1873 wearing a strange metallic bracelet on his wrist that he can't remove. When alien spacecraft attack the town and abduct several residents, Jake discovers the bracelet is a weapon and must join forces with the town's iron-fisted cattle baron Woodrow Dolarhyde, played by Harrison Ford, to rescue the captives and fight the aliens.
Cowboys & Aliens combined the genre promises of its title with A-list star power and blockbuster production values, but the finished film was criticized for taking its inherently absurd premise too seriously. Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford brought gravitas that the material didn't quite support. Jon Favreau staged impressive Western-meets-sci-fi action sequences, particularly the final battle at the alien base.
Cowboys & Aliens earned $174 million worldwide on a $163 million budget.
