Deja Vu is a 2006 American science fiction action thriller directed by Tony Scott. Denzel Washington stars as Doug Carlin, an ATF agent investigating a devastating terrorist bombing of a New Orleans ferry that killed 543 people. Carlin is recruited to use a classified experimental surveillance technology called Snow White that can look backward in time precisely four days and six hours — allowing investigators to observe any location in the past but not interact with it.
When Carlin becomes obsessed with a murder victim connected to the bombing, a woman named Claire, played by Paula Patton, whose death occurred before the explosion, he pushes the technology beyond its intended purpose, eventually sending himself physically back in time to prevent both murders. Tony Scott's kinetic direction and Denzel Washington's intense screen presence elevated a high-concept premise. Deja Vu earned $180 million worldwide on a $75 million budget.
