The Island is a 2005 American science fiction action thriller directed by Michael Bay. Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson star as Lincoln Six Echo and Jordan Two Delta, residents of a seemingly utopian but tightly controlled facility in 2019. They believe they are survivors of a worldwide contamination who live in hope of winning "the lottery" — selection for relocation to "The Island," the last uncontaminated spot on Earth.

When Lincoln discovers the horrifying truth — that they are clones grown for the purpose of providing organs, tissue, and surrogate pregnancies for their wealthy originals in the outside world — he and Jordan escape and must survive in a world they've never experienced while exposing the conspiracy. The first half of The Island was a genuinely compelling science fiction film exploring themes of identity, autonomy, and the ethics of cloning. The second half shifted into standard Michael Bay action spectacle with elaborate chase sequences through a highway and a building.

The Island earned $162 million worldwide on a $126 million budget.
