Extraction is a 2020 American action thriller directed by Sam Hargrave in his directorial debut, produced by the Russo Brothers. Chris Hemsworth stars as Tyler Rake, a fearless black market mercenary with nothing left to lose, who is hired to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned Indian crime lord from the clutches of a rival drug kingpin in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The extraction goes catastrophically wrong when both criminal organizations and corrupt military officials converge on Rake's position, turning the entire city into a battlefield.
Sam Hargrave, a former stunt coordinator who had choreographed action for multiple Marvel films, delivered some of the most impressively staged action sequences in Netflix's history โ the centerpiece was a 12-minute sequence designed to appear as a single unbroken take, following Rake through gunfights, car chases, hand-to-hand combat, and a building collapse in continuous, breathless motion. Chris Hemsworth's committed physical performance demonstrated action-star capabilities beyond his Thor role. Extraction became one of Netflix's most-watched original films upon release and spawned a sequel.
