Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer is a 2007 American superhero film directed by Tim Story, the sequel to the 2005 Fantastic Four. As Reed Richards and Sue Storm prepare for their wedding, a mysterious alien entity called the Silver Surfer arrives on Earth, creating craters and causing catastrophic environmental disruptions wherever he travels. The team discovers that the Surfer is a herald for Galactus, a cosmic entity that devours planets, and Earth is next on the menu.
The Silver Surfer, voiced by Laurence Fishburne and physically performed by Doug Jones, was the film's most compelling element โ a tragic figure enslaved to Galactus to save his own homeworld. The film's depiction of Galactus as a cosmic cloud rather than the towering humanoid figure from the comics was its most controversial creative choice, disappointing fans who had anticipated seeing one of Marvel's most visually iconic villains. The film earned $301 million worldwide on a $130 million budget.
