Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw is a 2019 American action comedy directed by David Leitch, a spin-off pairing Dwayne Johnson's Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw in a globe-trotting buddy action film. The mismatched pair must put aside their mutual hatred to stop Brixton Lore, played by Idris Elba, a cybernetically enhanced former MI6 agent turned terrorist who has obtained a programmable supervirus capable of wiping out half the world's population. The pursuit takes them from London to Moscow to Samoa, where Hobbs reconnects with his estranged Samoan family for a climactic battle.
Idris Elba's charismatic, self-described "Black Superman" villain and his cybernetically enhanced abilities pushed the franchise into full superhero territory. Vanessa Kirby impressed as Shaw's MI6 agent sister Hattie, and uncredited cameos from Ryan Reynolds and Kevin Hart as rival intelligence contacts provided additional comedy. The Samoan climax, featuring the Hobbs family using traditional warrior tactics against military-grade opponents, was a heartfelt and spectacular finale.
Hobbs & Shaw earned $759 million worldwide on a $200 million budget.
