Josh Hutcherson stars as Mike Schmidt, a troubled young man who takes a job as the night security guard at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, an abandoned family restaurant where the animatronic mascots โ Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy โ come alive and become hostile after dark. As Mike works the increasingly terrifying night shifts, he discovers a connection between the animatronics and the disappearance of his younger brother years ago.
The film was one of the most anticipated video game adaptations of its era, with the FNAF fandom having spent nearly a decade building elaborate lore theories around the games' complex mythology. Matthew Lillard appeared as the franchise's signature villain William Afton. Five Nights at Freddy's earned $297 million worldwide on a $20 million budget, a massive return.
