Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is a 2013 American dark fantasy action-horror film directed by Tommy Wirkola. Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton star as Hansel and Gretel, the siblings from the fairy tale who survived their childhood encounter with a witch and grew up to become professional witch hunters armed with an arsenal of steampunk weaponry. When a powerful dark witch named Muriel, played by Famke Janssen, kidnaps children from a village for a ritual that will make all witches immune to fire, Hansel and Gretel must stop her while uncovering the truth about their own magical heritage.

The film leaned fully into its absurd premise, combining fairy tale elements with R-rated violence, anachronistic weapons, and deliberately over-the-top action. Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters earned $226 million worldwide on a $50 million budget.
