Inception is a 2010 science fiction action film written and directed by Christopher Nolan. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Dom Cobb, a professional thief who specializes in extracting secrets from people's subconscious minds while they dream. Rather than stealing information, Cobb is offered a chance to have his criminal record erased if he can successfully perform 'inception' — planting an idea in someone's mind without them realizing it.

The ensemble cast includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Elliot Page, Tom Hardy, Ken Watanabe, Cillian Murphy, Marion Cotillard, and Michael Caine. Nolan spent over a decade developing the screenplay, drawing on ideas about lucid dreaming and shared dream states. The film's layered narrative structure, featuring dreams within dreams with different time scales, was praised for its originality and complexity.

Inception grossed over $836 million worldwide and won four Academy Awards for Best Cinematography, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Visual Effects. The film's ambiguous ending — whether the spinning top falls or not — remains one of the most discussed moments in modern cinema.
