Monsters vs Aliens is a 2009 American animated science fiction comedy produced by DreamWorks Animation, directed by Rob Letterman and Conrad Vernon. Reese Witherspoon voices Susan Murphy, a woman who is struck by a radioactive meteorite on her wedding day and grows to nearly 50 feet tall. Captured by the U.S. government and designated "Ginormica," she is imprisoned alongside other captured monsters โ a brilliant cockroach-headed scientist, a gelatinous blob, a half-ape half-fish creature, and a giant insect larva โ who are released to fight an alien invasion led by the tentacled Gallaxhar, voiced by Rainn Wilson.
The film was designed specifically for 3D presentation, with elaborate depth-of-field effects and objects flying toward the camera, and it was the first film produced natively in stereoscopic 3D by DreamWorks. Monsters vs Aliens earned $381 million worldwide on a $175 million budget.
