Morbius is a 2022 American superhero film directed by Daniel Espinosa, based on the Marvel Comics character. Jared Leto stars as Dr. Michael Morbius, a brilliant physician suffering from a rare blood disease who develops an experimental treatment using vampire bat DNA that cures his condition but transforms him into a living vampire with superhuman strength, speed, and echolocation abilities, along with an overwhelming need to consume blood.
When his childhood friend and fellow sufferer Milo, played by Matt Smith, steals the same treatment and embraces the vampiric powers for selfish purposes, Morbius must stop him while fighting his own bloodlust. Morbius received overwhelmingly negative reviews and became a subject of extensive online mockery โ the meme "It's Morbin' Time" went viral despite the line never appearing in the film, and Sony briefly re-released the film in theaters in response to the online attention, only for it to perform even worse. Morbius earned $167 million worldwide on a $75 million budget.
