Neighbors (2014)
Where to Watch
- The original script for Neighbors was written over a decade before production finally began in 2014.
- Many of the practical effects used in the climax were achieved without any CGI.
- The incredible score for Neighbors was composed in just a few weeks after the original composer dropped out.
Neighbors is a 2014 American comedy directed by Nicholas Stoller. Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne star as Mac and Kelly Radner, new parents who have settled into a quiet suburban house, whose lives are upended when a fraternity led by the charismatic Teddy Sanders, played by Zac Efron, moves in next door and throws raging parties every night. What begins as an attempt to coexist escalates into an all-out war of pranks, sabotage, and manipulation between the couple who want peace and the fraternity who refuses to quiet down.
The comedy was sharpened by its acknowledgment that both sides have legitimate grievances โ Mac and Kelly desperately need sleep for their baby, but they also resent the fraternity for representing the youth and freedom they've lost. Seth Rogen's willingness to play a man confronting his own aging and irrelevance gave the comedy unexpected emotional resonance. Zac Efron's Teddy was simultaneously the antagonist and a sympathetic figure โ a young man whose peak moment in life is happening right now and he knows it.
Neighbors earned $270 million worldwide on a $18 million budget.
